College founders open new centre

THE founders of the Sunshine Coast Christian Outreach College and Church officially opened the college’s new $460,000 administration building on July 29.

Marking the special home-coming visit by the current President of Christian Outreach Centre International, Pastors Neil and Nance Miers, the college hosted an open afternoon.

In a real surprise for the Miers, they did not know the building was named after them until unveiling the plaque.

The afternoon included the dedication service in the Church Auditorium which was followed by afternoon tea and a concert in the College Amphitheatre and guided tours of the College Campus.

The administration building is part of an investment of almost $600,000 in improving college facilities, freeing up teaching areas and paving the way for numerous changes around the campus.

The previous administration area is being converted to an Indonesian classroom and Film and TV facility complete with edit rooms and photographic dark rooms. Other staff and office areas will become classrooms.

COC claims winning edge

A COMBINATION of high academic standards and extra curricular options gives Sunshine Coast Christian Outreach College the winning edge.

The College, which has pursued this formula since its inception in 1979, is dedicated to an integrated program of academic learning and personal development.

This sees students from pre-school through to year 12 involved in many community activities, including visits to nursing homes, concerts, inter-school sport and drama performances.

College Principal Clem Davies said it was the College’s desire for excellence and care for the whole person which helped to create a near perfect employment/study rate.

"With an emphasis on family values and a quality academic basis it is no wonder that almost 100% of graduating students enter full time tertiary studies or gain employment," he said.

"It is very gratifying to know we are helping to build quality young people who will become leaders in years to come."
