SPORT
has been a favourite subject at both Woombye and Palmwoods State Schools
during the past month.
For only the second time in the past 12 years, Lawson House was successful in winning
the championship Shield at the Annual Athletics Carnival.
Age Championship trophies were presented by Cr Geoff Littler and school principal Rob
Edmonds presented Lawson House captains Larissa Yates and Rory Evans with the Athletics
Championship Shield.
Special congratulations to the following students who are Woombye Age champions for
1998:
9 years, Brooke Dryden, Daniel Cross, Lawson Peters; 10 years, Lina Skadins, Daniel
Hennig; 11 years, Annita Atkinson, Elliot Peters; 12 years, Amie McCosker, Adam Lenaghan;
13 years, Cassy Bishop, Luke Colbert.
At Palmwoods, in spite of the weather forcing the postponement of
Fridays program to Monday, a successful carnival was held with excellent
performances resulting.
Luke Steinhardt was particularly strong in the 13 years boys, winning all events and
setting three records: Long Jump 4.34 m, Shot Put 10.75m and Discus 27.35m.
Other record breakers were:
Girls: Jessica Fawdon, 9 years Shot Put, 5.25m; Kaylicia Stott, 12yrs Long Jump 4.11m;
Joanna Noesgaard,13 yrs 200m 33.79sec. Boys, Ford Dale,10 years Long Jump 4.10m.
An interesting visitor on the day was ex-pupil Katrina Davidson. She still holds the
the 10 years girls Shot Put record, she set in 1986. Other old records still held are:
12 years High Jump, Girls Kimberley Sherwell, 1.19,1984; 10 years High Jump, Girls,
Leonne Sherwell, 1.38m, 1984; 10years High Jump Boys, Bradley Lingard, 1.33m, 1984;
11years 800m Girls, Kristine Maddock, 2.34.00sec, 1986; 12years 800m Girls Kristen
Maddock, 2.45.70sec 1987.
Kristens Long Jump record for 12 years girls was broken this year by Kaylicia
Stott.
Bendixen won the Ball Games Shield from Landsborough with Nicklin third. Nicklin won
the March Past and War Cry Competition.
