Craft Fest '98 is coming up

THE Palmwoods Arts and Crafts Group will be holding its annual Craft Fest at The Shed, Old Bowling Green Road, on Saturday, October 17, from 8.30am to 4pm.

Stalls on display at Craft Fest ‘98 include folk art, pottery, various forms of fabric painting, home baking, Christmas gifts, pot plants and heliography.

The newest addition to the group’s handiwork is heliography which involves using the sun to make x-ray pictures on pieces of fabric.

"There will be a tablecloth on display showing how we’ve used leaves from ferns and monsteria plants to make patterns," Arts and Craft Group publicity officer Lillian Rice said.

"There will also be demonstrations of the various crafts we practise and the public will be able to participate and test their handiwork skills at some of the stands on display."

There will also be displays of paper manipulation, paper marbling, pyrography, wood turning, flower stall and all crafts on display will be available for purchase.

There will also be a treasure trove which will be selling old fashioned, pre-1950s jewellery. It will show how old jewellery can not only be worn, but also used in a variety of crafts such as pottery and decorating dolls.

"We are hoping that the white elephant stall, where we will be selling pre-loved goods, will also be popular," Lillian said.

"If you’re out and about, particularly if it’s election day, drop into the Craft Fest, have a look around and enjoy a devonshire tea at the same time."

The group is also involved with helping with the Palmwoods Progress Association plans for 2000 which will also be on display.
