Art group
seeks letterpress
THE Palmwoods Arts and Crafts Group is seeking an A3 letterpress for use with several
crafts now in operation at their headquarters, The Shed, 153 Old Bowling Green Road.
If anyone can assist with information, please contact president Anne Borthwick 5445
9995 or publicity officer Lilian Rice 5445 0602.
The Folk Art workshop with Tracey Sims was a complete success as was the calligraphy
workshop with Doug Eising which was sponsored by the Regional Arts Development Fund.
Participants produced an illuminated capital letter using colours and real gold leaf.
Another RADF subsidised workshop, Watercolour Marbelling, was held in Buderim.
The group is now looking forward to another workshop with Adele Outteridge on September
19-20, "Creative Bookmaking, Surface Design, and Paper Manipulation. Participants
will explore a multitude of ways to create colour and texture using a variety of papers,
paints, varnishes, inks, dry media, stitchery, thread and so on. They will fold, pleat,
layer, tear, glue, stitch, singe, paint, draw, wash, rust, print and more.
Rusting is a process which produces wonderful earthy colours and surfaces on paper and
fabric. The workshop will spend some time exploring colour textures produced with simple
processes.
The aim will be to create a broad palette of papers with which to make one or more
highly individual books each. Participants will be encouraged to treat the book as a
sculpture with book, cover and contents forming a unified whole.
