THE Sundale Hostel Auxiliary elected a new committee at their fifth annual general meeting last week.

The new committee members are President Margaret Hallett, Vice President Di Roberts, Secretary/Treasurer Heather Philo, Publicity Officer Lillian Rice and Vera Usher as new committee member.

The Auxiliary has made a significant contribution to the comfort and wellbeing of the elderly at Sundale Hostel during the past five years.

The canteen is continuing to run smoothly with the help and commitment of volunteers working on a roster basis.

Treasurer Heather Philo said the canteen operated as a service for the hostel residents, providing them with necessities such as toiletry products as well as gifts.

"The canteen has proved to be a success at the hostel and is providing a service which is focused on the comfort of the residents. It is run as a convenience for the residents, not for profit," Heather said.

"We also have a request book at the canteen so that if we don’t have what they are looking for, we can buy it for them."

The auxiliary has also introduced a Mobile Library service to the canteen.

"The Maroochy Shire Mobile Library van was too big and they had to cancel their service at the Hostel but we have now sorted out an arrangement where the books are held at the canteen," Heather said. "It’s an improved system for the residents as the books are rotated every three months and they can access them three days a week."

The canteen is open from 10am - 12pm Tuesdays and Thursdays and from 11am - 1pm Sundays.

Items donated to the Hostel residents during the past year include a set of compact discs, three side tables for the dining room and handles, steps and non-slip bath mats for the bath tubs.

The Auxiliary will also be purchasing a ‘Hospital Listener’ for the Hostel, which is a small device to help the hearing impaired.

The cake raffles run by the Auxiliary continue to be successful and are the main source of fundraising.

The Auxiliary focuses on making life easier for the aged and would like to invite members of the public to join them at their next monthly meeting at 2pm on Tuesday September 22, at the Palmwoods Hostel.
