Lions Lines

MORE than a million dollars of relief funds has been pledged for the Papua New Guinea Tidal Wave relief fund by Lions Australia. Palmwoods/Woombye Lions have pledged a minimum of $1000 from their auction held during the middle of last month. Another donation from their auction funds was made to the Intellectually Handicapped Olympic fund.

The auction was another great success, especially after the cancellation of the original date due to the weather. After around 15 years as an annual event, it never ceases to amaze at the quantity and quality of ‘elegant junk’ that appears each year for auctioning.

Even at auctions you notice the trends over a number of years such as in early days wooden windows and wooden-slat blinds were the "in" products for sale, but over the years the Lions have cleaned out all those items within the community. Kids’ bikes over the past couple of years were big in numbers, but currently they seem to be in short supply.

Community concerns are of much importance to the Palmwoods/Woombye Lions, especially in assistance and help to the aged, disabled, handicapped, disadvantaged and lonely within this area.

Part of the Lions International Code of Ethics reads ‘to aid others by giving our sympathy to those in distress, our aid to the weak, and our substance to the needy’.

Palmwoods/Woombye Lions members would love to hear from any concerned citizen, of any cause with-in this community, where Lions may be of help. For further information, the Lions contact number is 5442 1481.
