Duncan
wins high praise

Duncan Clement is congratulated on his award by Palmwoods
group leader Paula Griffith and chief commissioner
of scouts in Queensland, James Priest.
PALMWOODS Duncan Clement was honoured this month when he was presented with a
prestigious Baden Powell Award.
One of only a few granted in Queensland each year, Duncan, 25, was presented with his
award at a special presentation ceremony at the Palmwoods Scout Den on September 5. Chief
Commissioner for Scouts in Queensland, James Priest, attended and participated in the
ceremony.
Palmwoods Scout Group leader Paula Griffith said as far as the local group was aware,
this was the first for Palmwoods Group in its almost 80-year history.
Duncan joined the Woombye Scout Group as a cub in July 1981 at the age of eight,
gaining his bronze, silver and gold boomerang badges.
He gained his link badge and joined the Woombye Scout Troop on July 20, 1984 as a
member of the Drop-Bear Patrol. Duncan became a patrol leader on April 3, and attended a
patrol leaders course in May, 1987. During his career in Scouts, Duncan received
many challenge badges and completed all three levels of Scout Award Scheme.
Duncan went up to the Woombye Venturer Unit, gaining his Discovery Award, in August
1988.
He was invested as a member of the Woombye Rover Crew in April 1992, transferring to
Palmwoods Rover Crew in August, 1997. Duncan has held several positions during his
Rovering career. He was also the first Rover in the Nambour District and Suncoast Region
to be appointed as a Rover-aide to the Chief Commissioner of Queensland.
Duncan in continuing his career in the Scouting Movement both as a Rover and Venturer
Leader with the Palmwoods Scout Group.
