COUNCIL BRIEFS
WITH CR GEOFF LITTLER

MAROOCHY Shire Council holds regular community meetings at which Departmental Directors answer "questions on notice" from the general public.

The next meeting is at Palmwoods and will be held at the Memorial Hall on Thursday, November 26, commencing at 7.30 pm. Please forward your "questions on notice" to : Mrs Julie Murray, Maroochy Shire Council, P.O. Box 76, Nambour, 4560. The questions should be with Mrs Murray by November 17.

CONGRATULATIONS to the Sunshine Coast Vigoro Association on their successful bid to host two premier vigoro events at the Palmwoods Sportsgrounds. It has recently been announced that the Queensland State

Titles will be held at Palmwoods will also be the venue for National Titles. Well Done!

COUNCIL’S Health Services team have been busy conducting Immunisation clinics at our local primary schools. The clinics are part of the Federal

Government’s Measles Campaign and, by the end of November, about 8000 Shire school children will have been vaccinated. Palmwoods, Eudlo and Chevallum Schools are scheduled for clinics in early November.

MAROOCHY Shire’s draft Waste Management Strategy, titled "Today’s Waste...Tomorrow’s Resource" is due to be considered by council in the coming weeks, with a likely launch in mid December. This strategy will guide waste management in our Shire into the next century. Thank you to those residents who either attended the consultation meeting in Palmwoods in August or forwarded submissions. The valuable suggestions received were considered in the preparation of the final document.

HARDWORKING community groups are the backbone of Council’s Greening Australia Program and I would especially like to acknowledge the efforts of our local Eudlo/Ilkley Landcare Group. This group has worked tirelessly over the past three years reforesting land adjacent to the Eudlo Railway Station. More than 2500 native trees have already been planted in this area. A well deserved green "thumbs up" to the dedicated Eudlo/Ilkley Landcare Group.
