LES and Vera Herse of Palmwoods are always busy, but of late they have
been busier than ever. Never a dull moment in their lives. There was the marriage of a
grandchild when Michelle Kidd was wed to Damien Goad.
In October, Les received a certificate recognising 50 years of
membership of the RSL at the Palmwoods sub branch annual reunion luncheon. Then Les
and Vera enjoyed a nostalgic trip by train to Townsville during the 1939-45 war years, and
now their Townsville based grandson has taken Vera to visit those areas she knew so well
during the war years.
WOOMBYE Community Library has received a grant from the Maroochy Shires Community
Assistance Scheme. Without its yearly funding in the form of the shire grant of $12,000
the library would cease to exist.
Volunteer staff of the library are very grateful for the continued
support of the Maroochy Shire and especially the assistance tendered by Cr Geoff Littler.
This grant allows the volunteers to run and maintain the high standard
of the library facility for the benefit of the district. Both volunteer staff and book
borrowers are proud of their Woombye Community Library with its extremely well stocked and
tidy shelves of clean books. There is everything from fiction, non-fiction, biographical,
large print, hard covers and paperbacks, to an extensive range of periodicals and Mills
and Boon.
The junior library is popular with the youngsters as it caters for the
tiny tots with its picture book collection to the primary school age who enjoy the
Goosebumps and other similar series.
HAZEL Larard of Hunchy Road received distressing news recently when her son Ian was
involved in an accident near Goondiwindi. Ian Larard was knocked unconscious when a heavy,
out-of-control chain from a large industrial crane hit him. He sustained broken bones in
his lower back, neck and head injuries and a crushed ankle.
He was taken to the Goondiwindi hospital but transferred by air to the
Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane for specialised tests and treatment as his
injuries were potentially dangerous.
Hazel tells me now that the prognosis is much more positive and even
though his injuries of broken and crushed bones will take a long time to mend completely,
he has been released to return to his home and family in Goondiwindi.
Apparently Ian is already quite frustrated that his bruises and his
reliance on crutches prevent from getting about as quickly as he could before. Many
Palmwoodsians send their warm wishes for his continued recovery.

If you have already bought your Christmas gifts, there will be a
bountiful cake and jam stall to stock the pantry.
Morning tea will be served. Come along with our without a friend and
enjoy the cuppa, company, chat and the festive music.
