Project 2000 shelter promoted

THE Palmwoods Progress Association organised stalls at both the Riding for the Disabled festival and the Palmwoods Art and Craft Group’s Craftfest 98 to introduce its Project 2000 Memorial Shelter plan to the community.

Project 2000 involves inscribed tiles to be placed in the memorial shelter. The inscriptions will include early and current families of Palmwoods and will be sold to fund the construction.

There will be a further report presented at the next meeting with drawings prior to site and building plans. There is to be a restricted number of floor tiles. Residents wanting to have their own inscribed tile should bookings now by paying a deposit of $20, with the balance of $80 payable early next year. Project 2000 is expected to be built for dedication on Australia Day 2000.

The PPA has also struck its own pendant flag in green and gold as well as carbumper stickers printed "Proud to be Palmwoods, a piece of paradise on the Sunshine Coast. Founded 1881."

Residents can purchase both the flag and the sticker for $5. They will be available at the November meeting or can be obtained from the secretary/treasurer Bev Everson 5445 0975 or president Ron Corelli 5445 9172 after hours.

The November meeting will also discuss details for the Australia Day ceremony at Kolora Park on Tuesday, January 26, with the usual free breakfast in the park.

The line up will include entertainment during the morning, presentation of the Citizen of the Year award followed by the Australian naturalisation ceremony which was held at Palmwoods for the first time last year.

Residents of Palmwoods are asked to nominate people for Citizen of the Year. A form will be available from the secretary Bev Everson and it is anticipated to publish it in the Palmwoods District News. A special sub-committee has been formed to look at nominations.

Local talent in the form of musicians, singers and buskers (especially children) is sought for the day. Please attend the meeting or contact Jim Cushing the Master of Entertainment on 5478 9452 or Roger Brooke 5445 0213.

This great day is a Palmwoods local occasion in every way so please join in the planning. The next meeting will be held on November 12, starting at 7.30pm in he meeting room at the Palmwoods Memorial Hall.
