Chevallum open day will showcase school

CHEVALLUM State School’s open day on Wednesday, November 11, will be a great chance to appreciate the quality learning and creative environment offered at the school.

Principal Lyn Winch will welcome and speak to people at 9.30am. This is an ideal opportunity for parents and carers to gather information on the school’s philosophy and practice.

Chess players from the school were winners at the Sunshine Coast Chess Association’s 1998 School Tournament held on October 25, at the Sunshine Coast University. With almost15 schools participating, Chevallum’s teams won Divisions A & B and came third in C & D. The older students in the winning teams are : Division A, Raphael Szumer, Ben Lamberton, Tim Lamberton, Victor David Murray; Division B, Zalia Powell, Michael Foster, Travis Bleney, Marcus Bleney.

Strawbfest last month raised almsot $13,000 for the school. Chevallum School thanks the many supportive local businesses and people and hopes the thousands who came along enjoyed the night.

Surfing and swimming coaching is currently underway for students. Teacher Judy Fisher says many able swimmers are enjoying honing their surfing and board riding skills at Alexandra Headland with professional coaching from the Surf Rider’s Association.

For further information contact the school’s community Liaison Officer, Belinda Kirkwood on 5445 9238 or 5442 2514.
