Palmwoods
teacher gains high praise
THE Palmwoods State School Community celebrated International
Teachers Day on October 31, with a special assembly which included a speech by the P
& C president Helen Frawley and the presentation of a 25 years Service Award to
teacher, Bronwyn Young.
Mrs Frawley paid tribute to teachers by pointing out that after
parenting they had the "most important job in the world".
She acknowledged that teachers had real opportunity to influence and
prepare children for their future as well as the future of the broader society.
"In doing so, Mrs Frawley said, "teachers worked
long hours preparing their lessons, attending professional development to further their
own education and participating in school decision making processes".
Principal Don Roche took the opportunity of International
Teachers Day to present Bronwyn Young, a Year 4 teacher with a certificate and
flowers acknowledging more than 25 years service.
Mr Roche paid tribute to Mrs Youngs cheerful dedication and
commitment to her chosen profession.
In accepting her award, Mrs Young said, "Although Im
originally a Woombye girl, I was so pleased to be sent to Palmwoods and now I am a real
Palmwoods girl and enjoy working in such a caring school".
Mrs Young has been at Palmwoods for eight years.
