THE creation of a safe answer for the Kiel Mountain Road interchange
has caused a range of reactions. And while most district residents will agree that
"something had to be done", the final choice is creating the usual resumption
heartaches.
While all recognise the need to make our district safe and free from
traffic accident heartache, it is perhaps time to consider the heartache of those who have
lost sight of their dreams in the process.
Woombyes Carol Spears (and family) is one of only a few whose
entire properties are being resumed to make way for the interchange - and like the road
plans or hate them - she is losing her dream.
While she has fought hard to keep her home and her dreams, her battle
is now closing in on her.
While shes trying to face her future positively, she is being
overwhelmed with the anger that it had to be her dream that was being shattered, her palms
that will be bulldozed, and the home that she has spent so much time decorating and
renovating facing demolition.
Carol said it herself last week -"its no joke -
shes tried every avenue, sacked a couple of legal advisers along the way and no
doubt upset a few councillors, government ministers and public servants as well. But why
not!
Carol simply wants what she believes is her entitlement - a home of
equal value to replace the one she is losing. Her time is up but if anyone can help with
affordable land in the district, to move her gear or home, please contact her and help her
rebuild her dream - on 5442 1890.
