MORE than 100 people from across the parish and the state flocked to
the Palmwoods Uniting Church on November 22 to celebrate the 70th anniversary of worship
and Christian service in Palmwoods.
Led by Rev Ray Townsend, the service included a sermon from Rev Cecil
Hawley, a childrens story told by Rev Evan Jones, and organ music from Ivy Garrad
and John Brehaut.
Rev Cecil Hawley and his wife travelled from Sarina in central
Queensland to attend and celebrate their long association with the church. Rev Hawley was
baptised in the church and his parents were the first couple to be wedded in the church.
The service was followed by a fellowship lunch and all the guests
enjoyed a wonderful day of nostalgia and christian worship.
Church Elder Lawrie Matthews has compiled a book called Through the
Mist of the Years.
It contains an historical survey of Christian worship in Palmwoods,
covering the Methodist, Presbyterian and Uniting Church. This book is for sale for $5 and
interested parties can contact Lawrie on 5445 9371.
