Botanic
Gardens growth progresses
PUBLIC submissions and comments concerning the Master Plan for the
Botanic Gardens at Tanawha are being considered so that the Plan can be finalised.
The site survey made possible with a grant from the Gaming Machine
Community Benefit Fund is being undertaken. The survey locates the major features of the
site including significant native Flora which totals over 350 species.
The Maroochy Shire Council has granted $3500 for a survey of the Lagoon
which needs urgent repairs and $2000 for records.
Several applications for funding for the projects on the site have been
made, including a bridge across Mountain Creek for access.
The Friends if the Botanic Gardens is a community group active in
helping to make the project a reality. They financed most of the cost of the Master Plan
and also serve on the Advisory Committee. The group has constructed several tracks and
cleared weeds on the site. Open days are held to give the public the opportunity to view
the site, appreciate its atmosphere and comment on proposals.
The gardens will be a major educational, tourist and recreation
facility. Members of the public are invited to join the Friends of the Gardens. Inquiries
