CHRISTMAS Party time is upon us and many organisations and firms are
setting aside their various responsibilities and fund raising efforts for members to enjoy
free time and socialisation with others of their group, and to gain real pleasure in this
aspect of the festive season.
THE volunteers of the Woombye Community Library enjoyed the company
of each other at a Christmas Luncheon at the Waterfront Hotel at Bli Bli on the first day
of December. This Christmas party was one of the few times that the volunteers have been
able to get together and meet one another, as they usually only see each others names on
the roster sheet.
So a very happy getting-to-know-you atmosphere prevailed. During the
week prior to Christmas the youngsters of our district who have avidly borrowed from the
junior library facility during this year, will be eligible to receive a sweet-treat as
Santa Claus has left quite a number of treats for the volunteers to distribute to their
younger book borrowers.
MEMBERS of the Palmwoods Arts and Crafts Group have enjoyed a
delightful Christmas Party with luncheon at Verandahs restaurant at Forest Glen. The
company was convivial, the venue delightfully relaxing, and the food the normal high
standard served at Verandahs restaurant. Mystery Christmas gifts were exchanged
among all members present and a happy chatty time was had by all.
A CERTAIN portion of land in the Chevallum area has been the home
base for Bill and Ailsa Fuller and their family for nigh on 40 years. Two of their
children spent their primary school days at what is now known as the Old Chevallum School.
Grand Children of Bill and Ailsa were pupils of the new Chevallum State Primary School.
During those years many roots have been put down, many incidents, some happy and some sad,
have been filed into the memory bank of the individual members of the family. Now, Bill
and Ailsa have relocated to the township of Palmwoods and are settling into a very new
home in Corey Close, in the new subdivision near the Palmwoods Bowls Club. Bill and Ailsa
are no strangers to many organisations and business houses of this whole area; now,
Palmwoodsians welcome Bill and Ailsa to their new home in the township. We wish you many
years of good health and contentment in your new home.
ALL monies raised at the Saint Augustines Christmas Fair held on
November 26, will help towards the Church building fund. There was a very pleasing
attendance, and Mollie Edmunds and her willing helpers were hard pressed serving the many
buyers who were ready and willing to purchase that special gift from the most amazing
array of hand made craft articles on the gift stalls. Likewise the home made cakes and
goodies, also delicious gift boxed shortbreads and Christmas cakes at true bargain prices.
May Haupt, along with Em and Allan Beutel, were kept extra busy keeping the kettles boiled
and serving the bountiful morning tea. Bob and Eileen Rowland, Barbara Tutin, Rita
Collins, Norma Audsley were busy either serving or on the receiving end of that welcome
cuppa. Joyce Halpin, who had just returned from a much enjoyed holiday with relatives in
Dalby, was there helping and chatting with all. The Rev. Patricia King was absolutely
delighted with the large attendance and the friendly festive ambience which prevailed at
the function, as she endeavoured to mingle and speak with all in attendance.
Christmas Church service times at Saint Augustines have been
announced and are as follows: Christmas Eve: 6.30 pm - Family Service; 11.30 pm - Blessing
the Crib; Midnight - Holy Communion; Christmas Day: 8am - Holy Communion.
