names top Aussies
MAROOCHY Shire Council is calling for nominations from the community
for its 1999 Australia Day awards.
Mayor Don Culley said nominations were sought in eight categories with
the winners to be announced at special presentation ceremonies on Australia Day, Tuesday
26th January, 1999.
"Nominations for each category should have made a noteworthy
contribution to their organisation, to the community or in their chosen sport during the
year, or over a number of years," said Cr Culley.
The categories are: for persons who have made a noteworthy contribution
during the current year and/or have given outstanding community service over a number of
years: the Citizen of the Year (over 25 years) and Young Citizen of the Year (under 25
years); for the person or group who has staged the most outstanding community event during
the year, the Community Event of the Year; for persons who have a noteworthy record of
achievement in sport, or have made a significant contribution to sport as a Coach,
Official or Administrator, the Sports Award (over 18), Junior Sports Award (under 18) and
Sports Administrator Award, for those persons who have made a noteworthy contribution to
the cultural life of the local community or an outstanding achievement in cultural life of
the local community or an outstanding achievement in cultural activity, the Cultural Award
(over 18) and Junior Cultural Award (under 18).
Nominations close tomorrow, Friday, December 4.
