Wellington's Way
With Member for Nicklin Peter Wellington

SPEEDERS beware! Drivers who exceed the speed limit along the Nambour Connection Road will enjoy star status on a large screen which will be attached to a radar gun.

This is a first step in a program to reduce the road toll in this area. The next step will be significant speeding fines.

As well as my two weeks in Parliament last month, I saw more than 50 constituents in my electorate office and attended the following meetings and functions: Tilt Train inaugural trip Caboolture to Nambour, DETIR conference on unemployment Big Pineapple, Beerwah State High school annual sports award night, St John’s annual awards night, visit Quondamooka people North Stradbroke Island to inspect mining leases, Queensland Country Women’s Association AGM, Medal presentation with Minister for Emergency Services, Maleny Hospital. Opening of MIX FM new building Maroochydore, Jean Williams’ book launch Nambour, Nambour Meals on Wheels Cent Auction, Nambour Meals on Wheels Volunteers Thank You party, Regional Scout annual dinner Nambour RSL, Kenilworth Secondary School awards night (my wife Jenny deputised), Woodford State School awards night, Obi Obi Bridge opening, celebration of the 70th anniversary of the Uniting Church Palmwoods, Nambour Boys Brigade awards night, meeting with the Minister at Beerwah and District Youth Activities Centre Beerwah, Rhythms of Life opening Coolum with the Minister for Environment and Heritage and Minister for Natural Resources, Belli Hall information day.

In a bid to gain improved rail service between Caboolture and Nambour, I am meeting with representatives from Queensland Rail and the Minister for Transport this week. I will let you know the outcome in my next column. In closing, while this year’s road toll is down compared to last year, let’s ensure that it stays that way. Please drive safely and my best wishes to you all for a happy Christmas and a healthy and prosperous New Year.
