Our People... in
the post office
Kept busy at Christmas

IT'S the silly season again when many of us kick back and relax,
contemplating the year past and the new one approaching.
Maureen Martin and her family (pictured) have no time for the
fun and frolic of the festive season, it is all work, work and more work for them.
Post Master of the Palmwoods post office Maureen Martin and her staff
are busy handling the mountain load of mail that passes through the post office each
Christmas.
Owner of the Palmwoods post office for the past two years Maureen loves
and loathes this time of year. "I love the increased business and the excitement of
Christmas,'' she said. "But I loathe the long hours, I start work at around 7 am and
I am lucky to finish before 7 pm".
Maureen and husband Frank bought the post office building and licence
two years ago after the ANZ bank in Palmwoods closed. Frank now works in Brisbane and
Maureen manages it with the help of her daughters Laura and Emma who work part time in
between their university studies.
Former ANZ worker Chris Maher also works there three days a week.
Maureen is enthusiastic about Palmwoods and loves the friendliness and familiarity of the
locals.
Business is prosperous for Maureen and during her time there she has
increased the number of private boxes from 250 to 370.
"Business is growing along with the population of Palmwoods,'' she
said.
"Also with the closure of the ANZ bank many of the older community
are doing their banking here.''
Maureen and her friendly staff would like to wish their customers a
happy and prosperous new year.
