Lions Lines

HECTIC HOLIDAY

COMMUNITY Lions at Palmwoods/Woombye Lions Club had a very hectic pre-Christmas schedule, assisting the Palmwoods Singers "Carols by Candlelight", and also handling Christmas cakes and the Christmas Stocking raffle.

BUT the highlight of the year was the presentation of Youth Awards throughout the community at the various schools end of year presentations. The recipients were as follows:

SCHOOL BURSARIES

EACH year our club presents a $100 bursary to the year 7 students from each of the four local state schools judged on the following criteria: Obeys school rules; Shows consideration to those younger or less able than him/herself; Is polite and well mannered! The bursary for each school commemorates the name of one of the Palmwoods/Woombye Lions Club Charter members. Winners this year are: Chevallum: Peter Collins Memorial Bursary - Sam Foster. Eudlo: Eric Withnall Memorial Bursary - Stine Von Magius. Palmwoods: Ken Moore Memorial Bursary - Lauren Rutherford.Woombye: Harold Steinhardt Memorial Bursary - Sarah Bason. Congratulations to all winners who were presented with their cheque and shields at each school's graduation.

ESSAY COMPETITION

ESSAY competition: Three local schools participated in our District Essay competition, the essay title being - Can Love Change Things? School winners are: Chevallum: Erin Pfeiffer; Eudlo: Ry Latimer. Palmwoods: Lauren Rutherford; Lauren was also judged to be the Club winner. Certificates for the Essay Competition were also presented at their school's graduation. The District winner was from Agnes Waters State School, sponsored by the new Club of Captain Cook Inc.

PEACE POWER

PEACE Power contest: Planting the Seeds of Peace was the theme for the 11th annual International Peace Poster Contest. Schools winners were: Chevallum: Grace McMahon; Eudlo: Jared Fryer; Palmwoods: Rebecca Nixon; Woombye: Jess Heading. These will go on to district judging, then from there finalists go to the USA for the International judging!
