Burn off
with care
THE Eudlo Rural Fire Brigade has been kept busy this season. First
Officer Grant Harden reports: We have had five bush fires and one car fire in the last few
months.
One of the main causes of bush fires in our area are due to residents
burning small piles (leaves, garden rubbish, wood etc) and leaving it while it is still
burning. When they have come back to check on it, they find it racing off into the nearby
bush.
You can burn small piles without a fire permit providing the pile is no
greater than two metres across. When burning small piles, make sure you have a good break
all the way around it.
Have a water source nearby just in case and keep a good eye on it. If
the fire gets away do not hesitate to ring 000.
Give the authorities as much information as you can, size of fire,
location of fire (your address and house number), the best access to get to the fire and
it's better if you stay near the phone or have someone to guide us to the fire.
