With Woombye Vet Paul Shiel B.V.Sc.

Queensland Itch is an allergic skin disease, resulting from the hypersensitivity to the bites of sandflies. Not all horses are affected, but susceptible horses will get the condition each year. You will notice characteristic lesions along the mane, neck, back and tail. Fly repellent sprays are useful, but need to be applied regularly. Horses with chronic problems may respond to other Veterinary medication. Moving a susceptible horse inland will relieve the condition.
