Yoga benefits mind and body

By Joanna Jones

YOGA calms and heals, regenerates and invigorates. Yoga corrects imbalances in both the body and mind, generating overall well-being.

Suzie Iimura is a IYTA (International Yoga Teachers Association) qualified teacher. She was a student of Elsa Rabold of Montville, one of the most senior teachers in Australia who at 85 still practises yoga daily.

Suzie teaches the original Hatha yoga and says that the really great thing about yoga is it can be started at any age and benefits all people, including those with disabilities or injuries.

"Yoga is a series of exercises and postures which, combined with breathing properly, are designed to liberate the muscles, free up the joints, improve posture, circulation and self awareness,’’ she said.

"No matter what age we start, or what our mental and physical condition is, there is a Yoga practice to suit our needs."

Suzie conducts classes at the Woombye Hall on Tuesday evenings and Wednesday mornings and can be contacted on 54416197.
