District flood chaos

PALMWOODS and district was saturated in February’s ‘big wet’ with massive rainfall causing widespread flooding and chaos throughout the local surrounds.

Kolora Park looked more like a lake than a park, many local businesses were shutdown, building work was halted, homes were inundated, schools were closed and the local SES were working overtime tackling one emergency after another.

Both Palmwoods and Eudlo were left temporarily isolated when creeks and rivers burst their banks, cutting off major roads. Old Bowling Green Road, Jubilee Drive, and Old Palmwoods Road were among the multitude of roads cut off by the flooding. The Eudlo township saw flooding into low-lying homes in Rosebud Street and the water lapped the top step into the general store. Eudlo State School became an island.

A spokesperson for the Bureau of Meteorology said there could be many more wet days ahead this year.
