CWA seeks support: The Woombye branch of the Queensland Country Womens
Association is anxious to recruit new members. The QCWA is a great organisation that has
certainly stood the test of time. All ladies of all age groups will benefit by becoming
members. Meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month at the CWA hall which is on
the left hand side of the Woombye School of Arts. The CWA craft ladies meet at 9.30 am and
the monthly meeting follows at 1 pm. This year the CWA branches of this whole region are
trying to raise funds to upgrade, and rebuild, the units that will be used for needy
families in distress.
The Woombye branch conduct interesting meetings, often with an informative guest
speaker. Their craft mornings, prior to their general meetings, are always busy with
excellent instructors explaining the intricacies of particular crafts. The month of March
is when the branch holds its cooking, knitting and crochet competitions and display.
Entries for these competitions are accepted from the general public, male or female.
The date is: Tuesday March 9, at 9.30 am. This Cooking, Knitting and Crochet
Competition and Display is always a fascinating morning, to see the articles entered in
the various categories, and to hear the judges comments. If you wish to enter the
competitions, phone now for all relevant information of the various categories, to Maria
on 5445 9936.
Moore birthdays: Iris Moore of Palmwoods clocked up another birthday on February
15. Iris was intending to spend the Sunday prior to her birthday quietly as befits a lady
of her years. But Iris was almost inundated with a surprise visit from two of her
daughters and their husbands and various other members of their families. Then surprise,
surprise, the third daughter arrived from distant Stanthorpe to wish her mother happy
days. Iris was absolutely delighted to see so many of her kinsfolk to help her celebrate
her birthday.
Palmwoods bids a welcome to Ken and Judith Owens, who will be working on the
development of the first stage of the residential estate known as "Old Orchard".
Palmwoods is new territory for Ken, but Judiths ties with this area go back many
years as her father was a medical practitioner about the town of Palmwoods many years ago.
Both Ken and Judith have attended functions and meetings in the community and are pleased
with the reception they have received.
Library comfort: The comfort of all who use the Woombye Community Library during
the hot and humid summer months is to be addressed. An air conditioner is to be installed,
within the next week or so. This will be a real blessing as it has been needed in such a
close and confined area.
PATCH ADAMS: Robin Williams latest film "Patch Adams" will be having
its first night premiere on the Sunshine Coast on March 25. The local Zonta Club has been
fortunate to have been given the night as a fund raiser for their worthy projects. Zonta
members are already selling tickets as there are many Robin Williams devotees who
dont want to miss out on this opportunity to see his latest film. The venue for this
first night is the Maroochydore Cinemas, and prior to the show a great supper will be
served at 6.30 pm. If you cant catch a busy Zonta lady for your tickets, phone Sue
on 5442 1481 to make a booking. All profits will raise funds for student bursaries and the
Skin Bank - two very worthy causes aided by Zonta Clubs.

Vicki and Gary Scheiwe enjoy lunch at Clio's on Valentine's Day, February 14.
