Nursery News
by Carolyn Pomroy (Silvan Park Nursery)

WITH the few months of extreme rainfall, and the chance of more to come, many of us have wet areas on our properties that we were unaware of, plus all the ones we did know of. I have had many people coming into the Nursery who have lost plants and don’t know what to replace them with, and don’t know what to do to help save others. There are many plants that have root systems that will tolerate wet conditions comfortably and stay healthy. These include bangalow palms, banksia robur, crinum lily , tree ferns, euodia elleryana , tulipwood, leptospermums , matt grass , melaleucas, weeping lily pilly, native gardenia and the leichhardt tree to name a few.

To help save existing plants, I suggest trying to drain the area by digging a trench and/or laying agi pipe. Weakened plants attract mealy bug and aphids, so spray with pestoil.
