PALMWOODS State School Student leaders and student council members recently took an
oath of leadership and were presented with their badges of office at a special induction
ceremony attended by school patrons, staff, students and parents. The school has a
comprehensive leadership program to promote and recognise student leadership. In addition
to school captains and vice captains which are elected by staff and students in years 5 to
7, four student councillors are elected from year 7 and two from each of year 5 and 6.
&127;"During the year, other students who meet the criteria of being a positive role
model and contributing to the school culture have an opportunity to apply for a leadership
badge, in recognition of their efforts," said Principal Don Roche. "It would be
my wish that all students demonstrate leadership and earn their badge."
Mr Roche also said that a culture of service and participation was strongly encouraged
at the school.
School patrons, Rita Bailey and Wes Rudd, the school adopt-a-cop, Snr Const Paul
Campbell and the school adopt -a-fire officer, John Barrett presented the school leaders
with their badges. After giving an oath of service to the school, the student leaders
planted a tree as a symbol of growth. School captains are Beth Young and James Tansey,
vice captains are Amanda Nelson and Cameron Parry, the year 7 student councillors are Rhys
McGahey, Christopher Bourke, Cara Szaba and Courtney Evans, the year 6 councillors are
Lillian Warrum and Jemimah Young and the year 5 students leaders are Rielly Ware and
Jessica Bourke.
