Youth
club sorts through difficulties
by Joanna Jones
THE ongoing dispute between the Palmwoods Youth Club and the Gamers group has been the
subject of much discussion and several meetings in the past few months.
A rift appeared in the group early this year when the Gamers group, co-ordinated by
Quentin Montague, called a crisis meeting in response to allegations the PYC issued in a
formal letter of warning about inappropriate use of the hall.
These allegations included littering, vandalism, smoking, weapon abuse, unauthorised
use and entry of the hall, and general disruptive, unruly behaviour.
The PYC regarded these breaches in a serious light and have allowed the Gamers group to
continue usage on a trial basis for a period of two months. At the same time the locks
were changed, making entry only possible with the help of a committee member.
The Gamers group accused the PYC of trying to move them from the hall, without their
consultation, to the Palmwoods Scout Den which is scheduled to be pulled down.
A meeting held at the end of February endeavoured to address some of these issues,
without a resolution. There will be further meetings in an attempt to reach an acceptable
outcome for both parties.
The February meeting saw a changing of office bearers with Steven Schroder elected as
President, Kurt Pearce as Vice President, Mrs C. Lee as Secretary and Chris Duncan
remained Treasurer.
