ONE of the most important areas of involvement for Lions Club is to provide encouragement for our young people to mature into citizens with responsibility and leadership qualities.

Youth of the Year, Miss Personality Quest, Youth Skills Program and Youth Exchange are some of the better known Lions programs aimed at youth. One of the lesser known youth projects is the Peace Poster Competition which involves the schools in the area of each Lions Club.

The competition is open to children, 11 to 15 years and challenges them to draw, paint, sketch their interpretation of the theme of the competition. The theme for this, the 11th Annual Peace poster competition is ‘Planting the seeds of peace’.

In the January edition of the PDN the winner from our area was announced. These winning posters were then sent to be judged against the other winning entries from the Lion’s district of Q4 which includes clubs north of Rockhampton and west of Longreach and Winton and south of this local area.

We are proud to announce that the poster entry from Eudlo State School student 12-year-old Jared Fryer has been chosen as the overall winning entry.

Congratulations Jared. Gordon Percival presented Jared with his certificate - Jared’s poster will now go on to be judged against the winning posters from the length and breadth of Australia. The national winner and the winning poster will be announced at the Lions Australia wide convention in Brisbane early in May.
