Evan's
Exchange
by Joanna Jones

WELL known local youth Evan OBrien is having a dramatically different taste of
life whilst living as a Rotary Exchange student in Denmark.
While his twin brother, Keith, is studying Engineering at University of Queensland,
Evan is sampling life in a cold but interesting part of the northern hemisphere.
After leaving Australia in January, Evan spent the first fortnight in Odense where he
visited the house of Hans Christian Anderson. He is now in the small holiday town of Fakse
Ladeplads (one hour south of Copenhagen). Among Fakses claims to fame is the fact
that it has the biggest hole in the ground in Europe (it is a chalk mine) and also houses
a famous brewery.
Evan is enjoying sampling the different cuisines on offer, although he misses fresh
fruit and finds local delicacies such as chocolate sandwiches just a little strange.
Evan is travelling with his beloved trombone and serenaded his host mothers
mother with a rendition of Waltzing Matilda on her 80th birthday.
Evan will be in Denmark for 12 months and is currently attending a Danish speaking
school. He went to Palmwoods Primary School and Matthew Flinders High School, and whilst
he is unsure what to study upon his return to Australia, with an OP of 1 he will have
unlimited options.
