COUNCIL BRIEFS
WITH CR GEOFF LITTLER

Congratulations

To the Palmwoods Bowls Club on the completion of their new club facilities. It is a credit to their vision and a show piece for the town

Orange Grove Park

Play equipment in this park is not to be removed as it was rumoured recently. The slippery slide is to be replaced as it does not comply with Australian Standards. The old slide will be donated to Project Vietnam.

Railway Gates - Palmwoods

At the general meeting February 16 I moved that council write to Queensland Rail stressing the importance of these gates to the community of Palmwoods, particularly in time of flood. The gates provided the only access to Palmwoods for high vehicles during the last flood when Jubilee Drive was closed for 36 hours. Queensland Rail have agreed to keep the gates in place.

Speed Limit Palmwoods Township

Again I asked Main Roads to reduce the speed limit through the centre of Palmwoods to 40 km/h but to no avail. In part their reply read "...research has shown that the road and its environment, in general, can exert a significant influence on driver behaviour, especially in regard to speed.

Hence it is the department’s view that motorists would simply not adhere to a 40 km/h speed limit, as requested, and this reduction would compromise both speed limits generally, and the effectiveness of associated enforcement activities’’.

Road Survey Remington Shute Road

At the general meeting on February 16, Council received a submission from the Montville Village Association suggesting that Remington Shute Road be upgraded and opened to ease the traffic on the Razorback Rd and make the present Palmwoods/Montville Rd more user-friendly.

Council requested the Department of Main Roads consider the proposed alternative access to Montville by Remington Shute Road particularly in view of the slips on the Palmwoods/Montville Rd. Remington Shute residents will be pleased to learn that Main Roads have rejected the idea. In part they state: "The existing Woombye-Montville Road provides a better level of service, is considered to have a lower level of safety risks, and is of a lesser cost to maintain than to construct and maintain Remington Shute Road. Therefore, the proposal that Remington Shute Road be constructed in lieu of the corresponding section of Woombye-Montville Road is not considered to be viable, and would not be of interest to Main Roads’’.
