in brief
Anzac Day at Sundale
RESIDENTS at the Palmwoods Sundale retirement village in Jubilee Drive will be
commemorating Anzac Day with a service at the hostel starting at 10am on April 25.
The ceremony will include a traditional Anzac service including a bugler playing The
Last Post and wreath laying under the Lest We Forget cross. Several representatives from
the Yandina Cadet Group will take part in a flag raising and lowering ceremony and a guest
speaker will then deliver a tribute to our war heroes. The event will conclude with a sing
along and morning tea. The annual service is aimed at keeping the Anzac memories alive as
well as bringing the community to the people.
The general public is encouraged to attend, and any inquiries can be directed to Pat
Smith on 54450 244.
Seeking membership
THE Woombye Progress Association has been struggling in recent times with poor
attendance at its meetings and was contemplating its future until a proposal was forwarded
that will mean survival and generate renewed enthusiasm.
Some local traders who have been interested in forming a Woombye Business Association
for some time now have proposed that, instead of forming a separate Woombye Business
Association, that the two organisations merge and become the Woombye Progress and Business
Association (WPBA). A public meeting is scheduled, chaired by Councillor Geoff Littler, to
discuss this issue and form a new committee. Local businessman Bob Wade sees this proposal
as a way of keeping the WPA alive and as a forum for the business community to discuss
issues and engage in initiatives.
