HERITAGE AT RISK
THE approach to Palmwoods has always been blessed with leafy cathedrals welcoming
visitors and residents.
The towering Blackbutts and Tallow Woods almost touch on both sides of the road,
creating a wonderful canopy for motorists to drive through.
The bad news is that the land on the left just before Kolora Park is for sale, and
unless it can be acquired by Council, may well succumb to development.
This area entering the town helps to give Palmwoods its unique natural appeal. It is
part of our Palmwoods heritage, and cannot be converted into real estate values of dollars
and cents.
Imagine the horror of past residents and familiar visitors returning to Palmwoods to
find this section covered with concrete. They would be well justified in asking: how could
Palmwoods people allow this to happen?
In the past many significant landmarks have been swept aside. Lets not look back
with regret, shrug our shoulders and allow this special parcel of land to end up in the
same way. Goodbye apathy, welcome local power and village initiatives.
As ugliness assails us on all sides, we have never been more in need of keeping the
natural beauty to uplift our spirits, and perpetuate our pride in this special town.
If you would like to see this area preserved for posterity, please write to the
Maroochy Shire Council, outlining your concerns.
from Trish Swindells.
