PPA set for May AGM

AT the last monthly general meeting or the Palmwoods Progress Association on April 8, it was decided the Annual General Meeting would be held in May, allowing more time for members to obtain nominations.

The AGM will be held on May 13 at 7.30pm at the Palmwoods Memorial Hall Meeting Room and officials extend an invitation to all Palmwoods residents to join the members of this association to discuss relevant matters and to elect a new executive.

The association has been caring for Palmwoods since 1902 and is still going strong, but new members are always sought to bring in new ideas and to assist in the community involvement and needs for this growing township.

The guest speaker at the AGM will be Maroochy Shire Council Chief Executive Officer Kelvin Spiller.

The association welcomed new settlers recently with the release of the Information for New Residents folder, available free at the Palmwoods Post Office, Bill Ellis First National Real Estate and Palmwoods Real Estate offices (on request).

Members always attempt to make monthly general meetings interesting. Officials report: "There is a need for genuine informed discussion on a large range of matters confronting our community and we must assume a responsibility to contribute to those decisions. If we do not head them off or show our feelings then we cannot complain later.

"Our Vision or Mission is to be responsive to the community, its needs, lifestyle and its environment and progress into the 21st Century.

"We must strive to retain the character of our historical town, the residential areas with their Covenants and design and to include well planned and attractive Commercial and Industrial areas.

"Planning is necessary with the Local Authorities to sustain the quality of lifestyle we have and want to continue with into the projected growth future of Palmwoods.

"Community involvement, not by the few but by the many, is to make a commitment to ourselves and to Palmwoods, Our Piece of Paradise.

"This Association will focus on teamwork and productivity. We ask you to be in it, many hands make light work of any project.’’

Nominations are being called for:

President, vice president, secretary, treasurer, and two committee members (special project director and publicity officer). Nominations will be taken from the floor.

Financial members who have paid their dues for the period to the AGM 1999 are eligible to vote along with new members who wish to pay at the AGM prior to voting. Members may vote in person or by Proxy (forms are available from the secretary and must be signed by the member concerned confirming the appointee proxy authority). All correspondence shall be to the Secretary, Palmwoods Progress Association, PO Box 181, Palmwoods 4555.
