Palmwoods RDA plans festival day

TO celebrate the 20th anniversary since establishment in 1979, the Palmwoods Riding for Disabled Association is already laying plans for the annual Open House & Festival Day to be held on August 28 at the RDA Centre, Palmwoods Park, 79 Hunchy Road.

Organisations which have already indicated they will participate in the Festival activities include Palmwoods Arts & Craft Club, the Arabian Driving Club, the Sunshine Coast Australian Country Music Association, the Classic Car Club, and an invitation is extended to any other organisations and individual people who wish to join in the day.

An invitation is extended to any other organisations and individual people who wish to join in the day with displays, stalls, to contact Hazel Larard on 5445 9026 or the Secretary Margaret Gilfoyle on 5476 1640.

The Palmwoods Woombye Lions Club rate a special mention, since they have already celebrated this as their 20th Anniversary year, and over all those years the Lions Club has played a major role in the development of the RDA facilities to the high standard enjoyed today by the riders, their coaches and helpers who volunteer their services to provide the riding sessions on Tuesdays and Saturdays each week.

In 1979 the Physiotherapist at the Maroochy District Hospital, Ailisa Munro (now Mrs Stubbs-Brown) expressed to Hazel Larard a need for the provision locally of horseback riding as a recognised therapy in the treatment of five of her little patients. John & Hazel Larard made their property available, and the riding sessions were commenced mid-year, for riders of all ages and all disabilities from throughout the Sunshine Coast.
