Kids join in open day fun

Young swimming enthusiasts, Gemma Larsen, Daniel Larsen, Corey Easton and
Lauren Flemming join in the fun at the recent Palmwoods Swimming pool open day.

THE Palmwoods Swimming Pool held its open day on Saturday, May 15, in perfect weather. Many people took the opportunity of the day and all enjoyed the sausage sizzle put on by the Swimming Club.

The club thanks John McMahon from McMahons Butcher shop in Palmwoods for donating the sausages for the day.

A club spokesman reports: At present we are increasing our numbers of people using the pool and this is good to see even though the colder conditions are on the way. There have been no changes to Aqua Aerobics, Adult Squad and Learn to Swim Classes and every effort is being made to make the pool warm.

Our swimmers will soon be able to use a variety of gymnasium equipment under the guidance of our coach Neil Heron who is a qualified strength and conditioning coach. Winter training is going well with about 30 swimmers in the squad. The more advanced swimmers are enjoying the 90 minute session and Neil is working on building up their aerobic fitness.

When the previous lessee resigned the lease a year short of their full term the Swimming Club decided to tender for the lease and a lot of hard work and effort by the committee and other members of the club made our tender successful to the Maroochy Shire Council.

We have had a few teething problems but are ironing them out slowly. There have been no increase in prices and some have even been made cheaper.

We hope to have our wading pool completed this year and this will provide a facility for mothers with toddlers.
