Students
show teamwork is the way
MATHS, chess and science have been on the minds of Chevallum students lately. During
Education Week, May 17 to 23, Chevallum State School students demonstrated their
enthusiasm for learning by taking part in maths, chess and science events.
Two teams of senior students participated in the Nambour District Maths Competition on
May 18. They enjoyed the opportunity to co-operatively problem solve and hone their keen
minds along with students from 26 other schools. Chevallums students were Grace
McMahon, Raphael Szumer, Luke Day, Kali Hulme, William Park, Callum Martin, Zoe Thomas,
Ben Cadzow, Ben Lamberton and Joel Greensill.
Families at the school made a recent chess event into quite a school community outing.
Four school teams, each with four students, took part in the Queensland Primary School
Chess Championships in Brisbane on Sunday May 23. One team was in A Division and the other
three in C Division. The schools Chess club has very enthusiastic students aged from
seven to 12, and holds regular activities at school.
This Fantastic Century was the theme for Education Week. All Chevallum students took
part in the schools major activity - a series of whole school rotational groups
focusing on science.
For keen dancers there are two planned events, both in support of the schools
forthcoming trip to Canberra. The first is a supervised Mirror Ball Disco for primary age
children at Palmwoods Hall on Friday, June 4, 6.30 - 9.30pm at a cost of $5 per child. The
second is a lively Cabaret for adults on Saturday, June 5, at Rosemount Gardens, Nambour,
the cost being $30 per person. Tickets to both are available to all by phoning the school
on 5445 9238.
