POLICE BEAT
with Snr Const Paul Campbell

AFTER the recent charging of a man with dangerous operation of a horse causing death of a person we have had numerous inquiries about the Traffic Laws in relation to horses. Below is an extract of Section 6 of the Traffic Regulations and Section 38(a) of the Traffic Act.

Application of Regulations to Animals

Section 6 - A rider or driver of an animal shall have the duties rights and privileges imposed or conferred on the rider or driver of a vehicle by the provisions of these regulations other than provisions which by their nature cannot apply in relation to animals.

Giving way to restive horses

Section 38(a) Traffic Act - At the request of or signal made by raising of the hand and pointing to the horse by any person leading driving riding or in charge of a restive horse the driver of a motor vehicle on a carriageway being a driver to whom such signal is given shall drive his vehicle as close as possible to the left boundary of the carriageway and stop the vehicle.

The driver will thereupon stop the engine of his vehicle and refrain from moving the vehicle except where there is no reasonable likelihood that the noise of the motor or as the case may be movement of the vehicle will aggravate the restiveness of the horse.

Drive Horse whilst under influence of liquor or drug

Section 16(7) - Any person who whilst under the influence of liquor or a drug drives or is in charge of any horse or animal on a road or drives or is in charge of any vehicle (other than a motor vehicle) on a road or attempts to put into motion any vehicle (other than a motor vehicle) on a road is guilty of an offence.

Woman arrested

A Redcliffe woman who was involved in a single vehicle traffic accident in Palmwoods was arrested on a Warrant for failing to appear in court on other criminal charges. She was also wanted for questioning for a number of break and enter charges committed in the Deception Bay area.

Damage by youths

There have been a number of youths skate boarding underneath the Palmwoods School. They have been spoken to about being on the school grounds after hours without permission from the school.

The school is out of bounds after hours as there has been a lot of graffiti and damage caused by skate boarders.
