RAINY DAY
BLISS
By Trish Swindells
THE precious gift of rain was in danger of being taken for granted -
day after day of leaden skies challenged the very name of the Coast.
But most of us, used to sun drenched days, can experience pure
enjoyment from a rainy day.
The colours of foliage and flowers are enriched after the wash of rain,
and rainforest plants drink their fill.
Draped spiders silk glitters and sways with the weight of a
thousand diamonds, as tiny droplets of water create a fairy land in the early morning
light.
A clear sapphire sky can be predictable and lacking in subtlety,
compared to the drama and changing moods of cloudy seas and rainbow strewn horizons.
And when that drought bites into the very heart of the land, as we know
it will, we can look back and savour those weeks when the rain fell and water rushed and
tumbled in the creek.
Palmwoods people may not be mouldy green but they are certainly in love
with the planet. There has been great enthusiasm for saving the trees on the approach road
into town - the petition is available in the post office.
Also Palmwoods residents have shown their support of Energex Earth
Choice green energy program by adopting it in higher than average numbers, and therefore
helping to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and promote renewable energy.
Green tip - place pot plants inside the house and on patios to absorb
carbon dioxide. Take them outside regularly and wipe dust from the leaves.
