THANKS to those local citizens who answered our query about the
spelling of local areas and streets.
It seems, according to those who grew up in the district, that Landers
Shute was named after the Landers family, who cut timber from the steep hills in the area
and had to shoot the logs down hill in a basic form of a timber shute.
While one old timer, Doug Spackman (now living in Maroochydore),
informed us that Highlands Road had an s from the outset (when only three
farming families lived on the highlands), another local, Brian Nielsen, said
many of the streets had an s added over the years...ie Wilsons Road and
others.
We thank all those who have offered some historical and spelling
information and welcome any pieces of history on the area any residents may wish to send
in.
The PDN would also like to thank all those local people who contribute
to our pages on a regular basis through news and social items or through advertising - it
is because of this committment to the district, and its own newspaper, that the paper has
been able to expand to a fortnightly issue.
Any community or sporting groups who wish to contribute, please do so
by dropping into the Kolora Place office, phoning or faxing us.
And dont forget about our new classified advertisements, which
appear on this page, and offer our readers an economical way to advertise a service, sell
some unwanted goods or promote a course of entertainment.
