Palmwoods
in Progress
THE Palmwoods Progress Association now has an exciting project underway to bring a
piece of heritage back to Palmwoods.
Led by local historian Trevor Robinson, the group wa working towards
having one of the original engines from the tram which ran between Palmwoods and Buderim
earlier this century, restored as an icon for the town.
Mr Robinson is negotiating with the owner of the Krauss engine, Mike
Loveday, with a view to obtaining the engine for the town.
Negotiations are also underway with a Nambour group to restore the
engine to its former glory.
The Mike Day Krauss Heritage Locomotive Project will see the restored
engine take pride of place in acknowledgment of Palmwoods rail history.
Train buffs who would like to become involved are invited to contact
Trevor Robinson, phone 54459081.
PPA stages AGM
MEANWHILE the PPA returned its committee at its AGM last month. Members of the
community are invited to attend meetings and become part of this group which is actively
involved in improving the town of Palmwoods.
Project 2000
THE Project 2000 park continues to attract interest from local families who wish to see
their name and that of their pioneering families, go down in Palmwoods history.
The individually inscribed terracotta tiles may be ordered now on forms available at
the Palmwoods Post Office or by phoning Roger Brooke on 5445 0213.
History magazine
A sub-committee of the PPA has been formed to publish a Palmwoods Commemoration
Historical Magazine covering its history since foundation in 1881. Early photographs,
newspaper clippings and stories from the early days would be most welcome.
Other items discussed at the last meeting of the PPA include:
Entry statements for Palmwoods. These have been designed and funds
made available and the PPA would now like to see this proceed as soon as possible.
Traffic problem reported by Tarong Street resident regarding danger
for vehicles turning from the Woombye Palmwoods Road and the need for an overtaking lane
for inbound traffic.
Further request to Main Roads for a pedestrian crossing and mid-road
refuge near the Post Office.
Request for re-print of Palmwoods promotional brochure as current
stocks have expired and there continues to be demand for these.
Concern at the eyesore created by the fencing erected by Queensland
Rail along the rail line in central Palmwoods. The fencing used is not in keeping with the
towns image and should be improved so as not to marr the aesthetics of the
towns centre.
The Palmwoods Progress Association meets on the second Thursday of each
month in the Memorial Hall meeting room. All welcome.
