Art display opens at '10'

MUCH admiration was expressed by the numerous especially invited guests who attended the opening of the Palmwoods Arts & Crafts Group’s Arts and crafts exhibition held at the Gallery, No. 10 Main Street, Palmwoods on the evening June 9.

On display are numerous paintings, tapestries, folk art, decoupage, calligraphy, fine embroidery, pottery, patchwork articles large and small, dolls and knitted toys and much more. Artistically placed with the display are two floral arrangements by Buderim Craft Cottage floral artist Irene Marshall.

Irene made a special trip early evening to deliver these. This was very much appreciated by the Palmwoods ladies. The other two floral arrangements were by the Group’s president Anne Borthwick - perfect gerberas and much interest was shown in a vase of Christmas poincettia - very unusual. Pride of place in the front window is a large replica of the Clubs logo made by five members of the group five years ago from recycled paper. A description of the process used is added to the display. Artist Audrey White was congratulated warmly by many visitors admiring the 9 paintings she has contributed to the display. A very large painting by Julianne Kershaw attracted a lot of attention. Our embroidery group is quite small and meet at the Shed on the fourth Wednesday of each month 9.30 to 12 to exchange ideas. Nevertheless it was evident from the fine needlework on display that the needles have been working hard over the last few months turning out articles large and small and well worth a visit to the gallery to see.

There was quite a hold up at the calligraphy display as guests stood reading the wise sayings in the frig magnets and the beautifully set out pieces on the wall. Credit all due to our leader Joan Lilly for this. Look for something special from this group at our Craftfest on September 11.

An impromptu address by Cr. Geoff Littler welcomed guests and congratulated the Group on an excellent display. The Gallery was open for inspection until Saturday June 19.
