Mobile blinds business booms for Mitchells

WITH more than 15 years experience in the blinds and awnings industry, Bevan Mitchell still strives to offer customers the most professional, cost effective and personalised service he possibly can.

For the past seven years Bevan has been zooming around the Sunshine Coast, in particular the hinterland, meeting people’s blinds, awnings, security door and window needs.

Bevan has an office at his Nambour home where he manufactures the blinds, awnings and security doors, assisted by his wife Desley who does the sewing.

He travels to clients homes to give free quotes and his van is equipped with samples of thousands of different colours and books showing different styles.

Bevan is able to quote factory prices as "there is no middle man to push the prices up."

"Prior to this I had my own store in Nambour selling blinds, but I decided it would be more cost effective both for my customers and myself to start a mobile business."

"It is also more convenient for the customer because I come directly to their premises to discuss their needs."

Apart from blinds and awnings, Bevan also makes and installs security screens.

"Security is the big growth area in my business. Ten years ago security screens were only a quarter of my work, now they are 60 per cent, and growing."

Bevan has also been busy meeting the demand for timber venetians which are very popular at the moment.

"Timber venetians are very fashionable and the demand for them is growing.

However, there is a perception out there that they are very expensive, whilst this is somewhat true they have come down in price quite a lot recently."

"It would still be worthwhile getting a quote for anyone who was previously interested but put off by the high cost".
