A
Matter of Words
from Trish Swindells
THERE are two words which some folk have the habit of dangling in
the air, and using them assume that their argument is automatically superior.
One is "progress". By repeating this word often enough all opposing logical
thought processes are rendered worthless.
This word represents standards which no one dare question.
Why is this? Pregress is undoubtedly a double edged sword. You can progress quite
happily over a cliff, and certain diseases progress with fatal consequences.
The other word is "dangerous": all manner of innocent objects, trees and
animals have been dispatched and annihilated with the mere mention of this glib and hasty
word.
All the more reason to watch out when you hear these two sacrosant words spoken -
Beware, they are not always what they appear to be!
Green Tip - Plant a tree or shrub on which butterfly larva can feed, and help these
beautiful insects survive. For example, the Orchard Swallowtail requires the trees :
Melicope and Flindersia collina.
