Climate
Local weatherman Les Herse has been the Brisbane Bureau of Meteorology's official Palmwoods weather observer for the past 17 years - but he has been keeping his own records since 1950 and has records previously kept by the post office which date back to 1916.
He has a special rain gauge in his backyard which is checked every morning when there's a hint of rain in the air.
The readings are then logged direct to the weather bureau through a special remote observer terminal fitted to his telephone.
Anything over one millimetre is recorded.
Climate records are available in normal table form and also as spreadsheets in
MS-Works format.
This may be useful for schools looking at analysis of rainfall patterns, applications of
spreadsheets, or mathematical correlation of rainfall with other factors such as stream
flows.
