Eating Out in the Sunshine Valley

Misty's Mountain Restaurant
by Joanna Jones

WARNING: DO NOT read this review if hungry - some seriously mouthwatering food descriptions contained within.

Yes, we were delighted to be invited to dine at Misty’s Mountain Restaurant in Montville on a cool and crisp May evening for our next restaurant review. Mary Ann and I phoned a few girlfriends and headed up the Mountain and were warmly welcomed by Misty’s staff upon arrival. As there were seven of us, we were seated in the back room which was cosy and private, a perfect atmosphere for dining with a group. Amongst our group were local ladies Sharon Perry, Joanne Clements, Glenda Williamson with her friend Pat Rawlings from Murrumbateman in NSW and Tracey Keightley from Nambour.

Our evening started with a couple of champagne piccolos followed by some bread to share, Camembert and Onion Butter Loaf and Misty’s Corn Bread served with Tomato and Olive paste and Hommus.

I chose the Smoked Salmon Stack for my entrée, which was layers of Tasmanian Smoked Salmon layered with salad and a fried wonton sheet garnished with fried capers and a lime and sesame mayonnaise. It was beautifully presented and tasted divine, I can’t wait to go back and have another one.

Other entrees included an antipasto platter, warm lamb shank salad, sweet potato and crab tart, Mediterranean Octopus salad and Chicken & Asparagus Nori Rolls.

Following my entrée and washing down some more wine, I dined on a Roast Rack of Lamb, which was cut and served on Swede and Potato Mash with Hommus and Roasted tomatoes, pinenuts, and red wine sauce. It was mouth-wateringly delicious. However, it was difficult to overlook the prime Eye Fillet steak, the Atlantic salmon, the spaghetti with Grilled Scallops and Prawns, not to mention the special of the day, which was an exotic grilled barramundi dish.

Dessert followed, we had a choice of passionfruit tart, pear & caramel steamed pudding, butterscotch chocolate pot, or a Dessert Medley of all listed. Mary Ann and I shared the special of the day, the "James Brown Funk Torte" – appropriately named.

Chef Jeff Anderson came out for a friendly chat after the meal, which adding to the personalised service. Jeff has worked at Misty’s for four years and has established a reputation for consistently fine food. We won’t argue with that. Jeff gets many of his supplies locally, his meat comes from McMahons Butchers in Palmwoods and he gets his fruit and vegetables from Brady’s fruit shed in Palmwoods. Many of Misty’s clients are also from the Palmwoods/Woombye area.

Housed in a building erected in the early 1900’s, and operating since 1975 Misty’s endeavours to present you with freshly cooked local produce in an intimate dining atmosphere. The restaurant has three levels, with the top level being perfect for intimate, romantic dining.

Open seven days a week for dinner and lunch, Mistys is fully licenced, BYO bottled wine is welcome. Phone 54429262 for reservations.
