Finish on a High
WOOMBYE Warriors Churches Soccer Club had some special
reasons to celebrate at their breakup and trophy presentation on Sunday
August 27, including a funding grant for a new clubhouse and participation
in Olympic soccer.
Member for Nicklin Peter Wellington announced at the
ceremony that the Club has been successful in obtaining a funding grant
from the State Government to upgrade facilities at Jubilee Park. The
$127,000 grant will be used to construct a new clubhouse and amenities
block and upgrade lighting. This will also benefit the Vigoro Clubs who
use the grounds in summer.
A highlight of the ceremony was the announcement that
the Club has been invited to send 12 young players to take part in the
Brisbane Olympic Football Gala Opening Ceremony on September 13 at the
Gabba. The Club was happy to recognise a number of families who have
contributed much over the last few years in selecting children from those
families to represent Woombye Warriors, the Sunshine Coast Churches Soccer
Association and Queensland youth soccer to an international television
audience. Channel Seven has indicated they will be broadcasting the
ceremony; keep an eye out for the Woombye Warriors. Bob Wade of the
Woombye IGA Supermarket has donated a new set of playing jerseys so the
squad will look their best on the night.
Three teams made it to the final series this year,
including the Under 12A Red Warriors team who were Minor Premiers and
runners-up in the Grand Final on Saturday. All of the Roo-Ball teams from
Under 6 to Under 10 had a great season and many finished with round robin
carnivals over the last few weeks.
Over 2000 children played Saturday soccer with the
Sunshine Coast Churches Competition this season.
