Palmwoods Primary School Update
During the past fortnight at Palmwoods State School there have been
many wonderful events to celebrate.
Firstly, the school involvement with the Nambour Sugar Festival Parade
led to an award for "The Best Juvenile Group" for their float.
Palmwoods students decorated a truck to a variation of the town theme
"Sugar and Fruit – The Sweetness of Spring in Palmwoods".
Students made the decorations, arranged for donations of sugar cane and
fruit and decorated the float on the Saturday morning.
The annual athletics carnival was held on the school oval on Thursday
and Friday August 17 and18. With an emphasis on participation, students
competed in field events and athletics with Nicklin House winning the
shield for the carnival. Students displayed outstanding skills with many
long-standing records broken on the day. Most pleasing of all was the
wonderful atmosphere and sportsmanlike conduct of students during the
carnival.
Tournament of the Minds was held on Saturday in Nambour and once again
the students of Palmwoods State School were successful in their entries.
From three teams, Palmwoods received two honours awards. The creativity
and enthusiasm of these students is to be commended. They have worked
cooperatively and consistently over the last month juggling sports
practice and tournament rehearsals each school day.
Each year a number of our students enter the University of NSW Science
and Maths competitions. Results for Science were two High Distinctions,
five Distinctions, and eight Credits. Results from the University of NSW
Maths Competition were five Distinctions and 11 Credits. These results are
especially pleasing, as this is an Australia wide competition.
In the area of wider community involvement, our student council raised
just over $250 from the sale of flowers and merchandise for Cancer
Research on Daffodil Day on Friday August 18.
