Woombye Primary School News
TRAINING and preparation for our new sports day format – the
pentathlon - was a major focus for the whole school recently. Children in
all sports houses participated in a variety of track and field events to
attain points for their respective houses. We congratulate all the
children who participated in the sports and we would like to recognise
this year’s Age Champions: 9 years Paige King and Billy Alderson; 10
years Alexa Roberts and Michael Parsons; 11 years Lauren Simpson and
Lawson Peters; 12 years Chloe Dyce and Jamie Fooks; and 13 years Jacquie
Kent and Jason Yates.
These children will continue their training to represent the school at
District Level. Lawson House narrowly shone through as the winning team
overall on the day. Thank you to all the parents who helped throughout the
Pentathlon, either as marshalls, timekeepers, cheer squad or tuckshop
workers.
This year’s bookweek theme was "The Edge of Tomorrow" and
ran from August 21 to 25. The library staff focused on activities to
promote reading and writing for the future, via time capsules, aliens and
space travel. Many parents called into the library during the course of
the week to browse at the children’s contributions on this theme.
Recently, a group of Japanese high school students visited the school.
During their two day visit they demonstrated origami and craft to various
classes as well as interacting verbally, with our upper year level
students in Japanese (LOTE) lessons with teacher Mr Bourke.
A troupe of Arts Council performers visited our school to give all
students an insight into the culture of another country through music,
dance and mime.
Last week, some of the Year 3 children who have been communicating, via
email, with classes of students in Canada, and will give brief reports on
what they have learned from their ‘internet friends’.
Woombye Primary School held their annual Fair on Saturday September 2.
It was a great success.
