Lions Lines
Contributed by George McBride

JULY, August, September are busy months for this super active club. Firstly, the catering for a dance at the Palmwoods Hall, then erecting a large tent and marquee for various activities, cooking at the Riding for the Disabled Day was next, helping with parking and cooking at the Woombye School Fete is an annual event and finally our giant Auction Day at the Old School oval at Chevallum. Almost time for a breather, but events keep coming up.

There were several calls for assistance during the month that resulted in the giving of $500 for a plane ticket to enable a deserving resident of Palmwoods to visit a dying granddaughter. Further support in the way of a $200 food voucher was also approved for a deserving family.

Lions President Helen Latta had a busy agenda for her year based on assisting worthy groups in their fund raising and progressing the helping image of Lions by carrying out community work.

The club’s main fundraiser is the Auction Day at Chevallum and its continuing support helps the club support many worthy causes. The continuing donation of auction items is appreciated and ensures the continuing success of this project.

Funds raised by Lions are distributed or spent by Lions on community projects or Lions projects such as Cord Blood Banks, Low Vision Clinics, Medical Research and Emergency Accommodation facilities (to mention just a few). There is no administration or management fee – the dollar raised is the total dollar given.

To those people and businesses that support our club – we thank you and appreciate it.

Our Auction was a success because of donated goods and the people who came along and obtained bargains. Please remember you can donate items all year around. Ring 54788384 and we will collect them.
